Rethinking Assumptions: Student-Informed Hybrid Writing Course Design

During this interactive session, presenters briefly reported on the timeline and goals of the Hybrid Task Force at their institution: a public R1 university. Presenters then shared survey and interview design as well as survey findings from the phase of the research focused on student experiences in hybrid writing courses.
After reviewing some of the emerging trends, participants were provided with a heuristic to help them think through approaches to gathering information on student experiences in hybrid writing courses at their institution.
The heuristic focused on the following elements:
- What participants know about the students who take hybrid courses at their institution
- What participants know about why students take hybrid writing courses at their institution
- Next steps for researchers, administrators, and teachers of these courses
